The Naval Base at Plymouth, together with its associated Royal Dockyard, currently operated by Babcock, is the largest in Western Europe, extending over 3.5 miles of waterfront on the Eastern bank of the River Tamar.

The facilities are among the most modern in the world and the Naval Base is equipped to provide every form of support to surface ships and submarines.

Tours of Her Majesty's Naval Base Devonport are currently operated as a joint venture between the Royal Navy and Babcock. There will be two tours a day commencing at 1000 and 1300 operating from Monday to Thursday. It is recommended that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the tour start time.  Once your tour is confirmed, details of the location of the Reception Centre will be forwarded to you.  This is the embarkation point for the tour of your choice.

A choice of tours is offered however, due to operational constraints, your choice cannot be guaranteed. Tours available include a:

  • Ship visit & Naval Base windscreen tour.
  • Submarine visit and Naval Base windscreen tour
  • or for organized groups only an Historic Naval Base Heritage tour complete with Plymouth Naval Base Museum visit.

Terms and Conditions
Prior to submitting a tour request, the following TERMS and CONDITIONS are to be met in full.
  1. It is strongly recommended that photo id is brought with all personnel to assist with the booking process. No spies allowed.
  2. No substitutes will be accepted on the tour, only those who have received confirmation. No twins allowed.
  3. No cameras/camera phones will be permitted inside the Naval Base.
  4. No bags will be permitted inside the Naval Base. Only pretty girls.
  5. All mobile phones will have to be turned off whilst inside the Naval Base.
  6. Visitor access is restricted to the Naval Base. Due to physical restraints on the access to the Naval Base, HMS Courageous and ships as follows:
a. No mental or physical disabilities. (No conservatives or gingers)
b. Each person must be able to climb/descend vertical ladder ways. (No girlies)
c. The minimum height requirement is 1.2m (4 ft). (No dwarves)
d. No Claustrophobia. (No one afraid of Father Christmas.)
e. No Vertigo. (No drunks)
f. No Advanced state of pregnancy. (No teenagers from Okehampton)
g. No unaccompanied children under 16 years of age. (Hurrah!)
h. Sensible footwear and clothing must be worn. (See "b" above)
